Pray for the Sri Lanka Moor in Sri Lanka

pronounced: moorh

The Moors of Sri Lanka trace their ancestry to Arab traders who settled in the island nation sometime between the eighth and fifteenth centuries. Muslim merchants arrived in large numbers, married local women and stayed. The Buddhist Sinhalese and the Hindu Tamils fought a devasting civil war in Sri Lanka from 1983 to 2009. Most Moors tried to stay neutral in the war. Others supported the Hindus who spoke Tamil, the main language of the Sri Lankan Moors. The complete Tamil Bible is available. Other Tamil resources include the JESUS Film, Gospel Recordings and God's Story.

Ministry Obstacles: The Muslim Moors must understand the true nature of Jesus Christ. He is much more than a human prophet like Islam teaches. Being Muslim is an integral part of the Moors' identity.

Scripture Focus: "Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will."
- 2 Timothy 2:25-26

Prayer Focus: Pray for new believers to have mercy and love for those who are abusive. Pray that they will intercede in prayer for them. Pray for healing among the major ethnic groupings on the island. Pray that the Moors would tune in to Christian Tamil radio and TV broadcasts. Pray that the Lord would raise up a growing church this decade among the Sri Lankan Moors. There are few, if any, known Christian believers among the Moors of Sri Lanka. Pray that the believers who speak Tamil in southern India would develop a burden for the Moors of Sri Lanka and act upon that burden.
